Hassan Hanafi and the humanization of theology

Abstract

Theology is one of the important sciences in Islam. It has been described as the most honorable of sciences due to the honor of the topics discussed in it, because it seeks to prove the necessity of existence, its attributes and actions, as it searches for prophecy, Imamate, and the Resurrection. One of his goals was to enlighten Muslims by proving their beliefs with evidence and argument, as well as defending these beliefs and highlighting their authority over opponents. Scholars have had great effort in this field from the beginnings of Islam to the present day.

   Recently, the owners of modernity and innovation demanded to work on renewing issues, topics, approach and language. These were some of the demands trying to subordinate this science to humanism and humanism by transferring topics from centering on God Almighty to centering around human beings, as is the approach of Dr. Hassan Hanafi in this field. By turning the concepts circulating in theology and the origins of faith into purely human concepts, this research took a look at what Dr. Hanafi had done and what he touched upon with what we have done of analyzing and criticizing a number of his words.
